Smith & Sons Surfacing has been installing playground tarmac and school hard-standing surfaces since 1979, working with primary schools, secondary schools, and educational facilities to deliver surfaces that meet safety standards and stand up to daily use by hundreds of children. We can work during school holidays to minimise disruption, and we include coloured surfacing and line marking as part of our service.

Every playground surface we install is smooth, trip-free, and properly drained to prevent pooling water — one of the most common causes of playground slips. We design with child safety as the primary consideration, meeting current DfE and local authority safety requirements.

We offer a full range of coloured playground surfacing and professional line marking — sports courts, activity zones, road safety markings, number grids, and creative play areas. Coloured zones help children navigate spaces and add real energy and character to a playground environment.

We provide documentation on completion and are happy to liaise directly with facilities managers, headteachers, or local authority surveyors throughout the project.
